During the first appointment I will start by taking your history. I will ask about symptoms, lifestyle, work and hobbies to help me build a complete picture of the stresses and strains on the patient’s body, as well as finding out about any injuries or trauma. I will also ask about relevant medical history and past injuries. I will then carry out an examination to test what structures and tissues are involved in the problem.
At the end of the assessment, I will explain my findings and discuss your individual treatment programme which may include:
I will monitor your progress and update the treatment plan as necessary. I encourage clients to talk to me about symptoms or treatment at any time - I am always happy to discuss any aspect of the client’s treatment and believe that the best results are gained when we work together. All physiotherapy is carried out with complete patient confidentiality. A rehabilitation plan will be formulated at your first session outlining the goals of treatment. This includes:

Having qualified at degree level in Acupuncture, Charlie has a deep understanding and experience of this practice that goes beyond the short modules which are common practice for other physiotherapists.
Acupuncture is a natural, safe, and time-tested therapy that treats a very wide range of conditions. Acupuncture works on different levels according to what is being treated.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of hair-thin, sterile needles into the body to activate special receptors which communicate with the central nervous, endocrine and cardiovascular systems resulting in the release of natural pain-killing substances and dilation of blood vessels delivering oxygen and nutrient-rich blood, hormones and immune factors to sick areas of the body. In short, acupuncture boosts blood-flow and the release of the body's intrinsic healing chemicals.
Many millions of people have used acupuncture to date. Often people seek an acupuncturist for chronic pain and health problems that haven’t responded to conventional medicines. The NIH, NHS, and World Health Organisation have all given formal approval of certain uses of acupuncture. In fact 51% of medical doctors believe acupuncture to be efficacious and of value.
Please note that acupuncture may form part of your physiotherapy treatment plan at no additional cost. However, if you wish to have additional acupuncture only treatments outside of your treatment plan, please see costs below:

Charlie is skilled in a number of different kinds of massage. His original training is Tui-Na (Chinese Therapeutic Massage), which specifically targets and releases physical tension and pain conditions. Tui-Na can either be very strong and intense (Yang style) or very subtle and energetic (Yin style), according to the individual needs. It is sometimes called needle-free acupuncture or acupressure, as it uses the same principles and pressure points as acupuncture.
Each massage session is tailored to your needs and can focus on different levels or aspects of the body/mind. Full body massage is best for general health and stress relief. If you are suffering from a specific injury or tension/pain, treatment can focus on remedying this part of the body. In the treatment of physical tension, pain, and injuries, postural exercises and stretches are recommended to sustain the effects of the treatment and act as a form of self-healing.
Please note that massage may form part of your physiotherapy treatment plan at no additional cost. However, if you wish to have additional massage only treatments outside of your treatment plan, please see costs below:
